Acer’s 3D-equipped Aspire 5738DG laptop gets official, examined

Acer’s done plenty of boasting about its very first 3D laptop, the Aspire 5738DG, but it’s just now gotten completely official, and let a few lucky folks get their hands on it. As you might expect, PC Magazine found the 3D part of the laptop to be something of a gimmick, although not entirely unimpressive. Acer gives the world first 3D laptop

It seems like a day can’t go by without us reporting on something new by Acer, and the company is now telling the world that they have the first 3D laptop.
This “TriDef 3D Experience” allows users to view 2D movies as well as photos in 3D, provided the user wears the glasses. Oh yeah, the 3D effect also works for any Direct X 9 game. It works with a special brew of software, a screen coating, as well as the glasses.
My source does not say when Acer will be putting this out, but I will be listening intently.
Acer’s 11.6-inch Timeline 1810T gets ceremonious christening, Oct. 22nd launch date

We swear we’ve seen this before at least a couple of times, but ask Acer and the 11.6-inch Timeline AS1810TZ is a brand new, LED-backlit and Windows 7-packing ultraportable with a full-sized keyboard, eight hours of battery, multi-gesture touchpad, and a dual-core Intel CULV processor. All the amenities are here, as well, including 802.11b/g Draft-N, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, webcam, mic, and a handful of color options. Care to guess the official release date? Acer Aspire 5738PG wants you to reach out and touch its screen

And with that, Acer jumps into the touchscreen laptop waters. Due out on the ever-so-popular October 22nd along with Windows 7 is the Aspire 5738PG laptop, with Support for two fingers at once pinching, flicking and double touching their way across the OS, or if you’d prefer, it’s also got a numeric keyboard and multi-gesture touchpad. Housed inside is an Intel Core 2 Duo with ATI Radeon HD 4570, a 15.6-inch LED-backlit screen with 1366 x 768 resolution, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, HDMI out, four USB 2.0 in, 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N. Starting price is $799.99, which from what we’ve seen isn’t too bad of a deal. Press release after the break.
Acer issues recall for some Aspire laptops

Acer’s issued a voluntary recall for some of its Aspire laptops — all of which were manufactured before September 15th of this year. It seems that some of them are experiencing an overheat of the microphone cable after "repeated" and "extreme" pressure is applied to the left palm rest. The affected models include the AS3410, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG. Acer’s set up a website where you can enter the serial number of your device to see if yours might be one of the affected.

Acer is planning a new tablet PC named the Aspire Time 1820P, which can be considered as the convertible tablet version of the Timeline 1810T/Aspire 1410. The 1820P has the same technical configuration as the 1810T but gets a touchscreen display. More of this gadget »
